As a modern and international city, Edinburgh warmly embraces individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. The city continually endeavors to foster an inclusive environment that upholds cultural rights, artistic expression, and social movements.

The Festival of Migration exemplifies this ethos. This upcoming weekend, alongside engaging panel discussions and captivating showcases of artists in residence projects, we are thrilled to host a collaborative music project performance and welcome an artist from Ukraine. Together, we will celebrate the richness of cultural rights and acknowledge the profound value of migration.

«The first meeting of Edinburg. The escape from the war.»
Oil on canvas, triptych 100 x 90 cm
( 100x30, 100x30, 100x30), 2023.

This painting was created in April 2023. The picture depicts and shows a very typical emotional state for refugees who can be people of different nationalities and countries. I am a sort of war refugee so I have tried to represent the people of Ukraine as we all are overcoming the hardships of adapting in other countries and cultures. First of all , it is a culture shock.
It means you feel a little lonely and troubled by your new problems.
I unexpectedly turned up to Scotland. The capital of this country is considered to be one of the most beautiful cities of Europe. Having visited such a great place I was really impressed by the magnificent architecture and as an artist I was eager to depict this ancient beauty combining with a bunch of particular emotions of people who were forced to migrate because of the war. Mostly you know, they are women with their children leaving for various countries in a hurry and taking only necessary stuff including sometimes their beloved pets.
Definitely we were moving to unknown places which could be suspenseful for us.
